BICSI OSP102

BICSI OSP102: Applied Outside Plant Design

In this unparalleled training class, you will learn elements common to all OSP projects, along with design techniques for underground, direct-buried and aerial cable plan applications. You will have an opportunity to apply what you have learned through a series of design scenarios such as route design, media selection, planning, and cost estimation.

Suggested Study To Achieve Qualification:

Option 1: Hold a current RCDD credential.

Option 2: Two years of verifiable full-time equivalent field experience in OSP design and/or installation AND a minimum of 32 hours of documented continuing education in OSP design and/or installation which may include training provided by BICSI, manufacturer training, college courses, industry training, and/or vendor training.

Option 3: Applicants must have 2 years of verifiable full-time equivalent field experience in OSP design and/or installation AND hold a current BICSI Technician certification, DCDC or RTPM..

Why Should You Attend?

Through attendance in this course you will learn the following:

  • Identify the components of an outside plant infrastructure.
  • Identify outside plant pathways and spaces.
  • Describe effective route designs for outside plants.
  • Describe media solutions.
  • Describe planning requirements for initial outside plant design.
  • Identify the primary codes and standards associated with outside plant cable installation
  • Identify grounding and bonding requirements associated with OSP installation.

Required Materials:

An electronic or hard copy of the Outside Plant Design Reference Manual (OSPDRM).

Students are also required to bring an internet capable (i.e., laptop, tablet, smart phone) device to class each day

Course Highlights

Identify the components of an outside plant infrastructure, pathways, and spaces
Describe effective route designs and media solutions for outside plants.
Identify the primary codes and standards as well as grounding and bonding requirements associated with OSP installation
Locate requirements in project documentation, including an RFQ, scope of work, and other information typically established during a site and/or field survey
Identify underground, direct-buried, and aerial sections of a route; special design considerations; minimum components of a maintenance plan; and information that is needed to provide a cost estimate.
